CCKA Programme Winter 2006/7

The committee would really appreciate your support at the following annual events. The coaches give a huge voluntary commitment to the paddlers in the CCKA and it would be lovely to see a good turn out of members.

Monday 1 January 2007. White water paddle on the River Roe. Meet in the [O’Cahans Rock] lower car park on the east bank at 10.00am. Contact Robin Ruddock. Supported by Stuart Staples and Paul McQueen.

Friday 12 – Sunday 14 January. Inuit skills workshop based at Bushmills Education Centre. Paddling skills for calm and rough water with Greenland style paddles, rolling, fishing, archery, paddle making, carving and archive films. Tuesday 13 February 2007. Kayak maintenance DGEebruary at Bushmills Education Centre at @7.00pm.

Sunday 18 February 2007. White water ‘peer paddle’ on the River Roe for those at four star level. Meet at Sainsburys at 8.30am. Contact John Vance. With John Wilkinson, Brian Bonnar, Stuart Staples and Paul McQueen.

Saturday 17 March 2007. St. Patrick’s Day family paddle. Bann cruise. Family paddle on the Bann meeting at Camus at 10.00am. Bring a picnic and celebrate St. Patricks day on the river.  Contact John Wilkinson.Supported by Cath Coey, Blair Austin and Stephen Chapman.

Sunday 25 March 2007. Sea kayak trip along the Donegal coastline. Meet at Sainsburys at 8.30am. Contact John Vance. With Gary Lamont and Jimmy Christie. 

Saturday 19 May 2007 @ 2.00pm. West Bay Sea Kayak Races which are suitable for all ages and ability @ 2.00pm. CCKA Social evening / BBQ at Lansdowne 

Saturday 9 June 2007 @ 10.00am.  River Bann Canoe Challenge. An event that is part of the ‘River Festival’. Charity event / race on the Bann suitable for all levels and ability.

Sunday 26 August 2007 @ 10.00am. Portrush sea kayak rally. An event that is part of the ‘Festival of the sea’. Suitable for all levels and ability.

Saturday 26 May 2007 @ 2.00pm.  Raft Race safety cover. An event that is part of the Raft Race Suitable for all paddlers with kayak safety test.

Saturday 25 August 2007 @ 1.00pm. Island Dhu Swim safety cover. Suitable for all paddlers with two star kayak award.

Friday evening pool sessions in Coleraine Leisure Centre, 9.00pm -10.00pm. Contact Gary Lamont. Kayaks - £5, swim/snorkel - £1. Eight kayaks are permitted and personal kayaks must be clean. Sessions start Friday 5 January 2007. Friday 20 April 2007 - Sea kayak rescue skills. Friday 27 April 2007 - Canoe polo. For these two sessions numbers are not restricted. Please inform Gary if you are unable to get to a session that you have booked in advance as he can re-allocate the kayak.

Paddlers should contact trip leaders at least two days before an event and earlier if equipment is required.

Friday 27 April 2007 - Canoe polo. For these two sessions numbers are not restricted. Please inform Gary if you are unable to get to a session that you have booked in advance as he can re-allocate the kayak.

Sunday Surf sessions. Paddlers meet at the White Rocks Beach at 10.00am. Contact Gary Lamont. 

Sunday the 15th, 22nd and 29th of April 2007. Sea kayak skills training at Portrush Harbour. Meet at 10.00am. Come prepared to get wet. Suitable for paddlers of all levels. Contact John Vance.

Thursday 19 April 2007.  Chartwork and navigation workshop with John Vance and preparation for Donegal Expedition at Bushmills Education Centre at 7.30pm. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Thursday 26 April 2007. Sea kayak trip Portrush to Portstewart. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 7.00pm. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons. 

Friday 4th – Monday 7th May 2007. CCKA expedition to Donegal. Meet at Magheraroarty on the Friday evening. Wild camping and the opportunity to explore the adjacent islands. Contact John Vance.

Thursday 10th May 2007. Sea kayak trip Portballintae to Dunseverick. This event coincides with the practice night for the NW 200. Meet at Portballintrae at 7.00pm. Contact Robin Ruddock. 

Thursday 17th May 2007. River Bann cruise. Meet at the Cutts at 7.00pm. Suitable for beginners. Contact Stephen Chapman.

Saturday 19th May 2007. Portrush Sea kayak Races. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 2.00pm. BBQ and prize giving at Lansdowne at 5.00pm. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Sunday 20th May 2007. Surf Event for club level paddlers. Meet at the White Rocks at 10.00am. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Saturday 26th May 2007. Safety Cover for Portrush Raft Race. Meet on the beach at 2.00pm. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Friday 1st –Sunday 3rd June 2007. Irish Sea kayaking Association meet on the N Coast. Based at Bushmills Education Centre, camping. This is an opportunity for experienced paddlers to explore the coast with the possibility of camping on Rathlin Island at some stage. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Thursday 7th May 2007. Dunseverick to Ballintoy. Meet at Dunseverickat 7.00pm. Contact John Vance.

Saturday 9th June 2007. Bann River Festival at Christie Park. Cruise or race from Drumaheglis. Meet at 10.00am at Drumaheglis. Contact Cath Coey.

Saturday 16th June 2007. West Bay Swim safety cover. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 1.00pm. Suitable for competent 2 star level paddlers. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Thursday 21st June 2007. Magilligan to Inishowen. Meet at Magilligan Point at 7.00pm. Contact John Vance. 

Friday 30th June – Sunday 1st July 2007. Camping at Magheramourne Boat Club. Traditional boat festival and the opportunity to explore the Gobbins and East Antrim coastline. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Mid July 2007. CCKA sea kayak expedition to Kerry. Keith Fitzsimmons

CCKA Equipment available free to members for programmed events. £5 per kayak at other times in the company of a qualified coach.

2 x Aleut double sea kayaks, 2 x Calypso double sea kayaks, 3 x Avocet sea kayaks, 1 x Aquanaut sea kayak.1x Ottersports open canoe, I x Mirage WW kayak, I x  Mountain Bat WW kayak. Paddles, buoyancy aids and spraydecks for the above kayaks.

I x 5 metre Umiak inflatable with 15hp Mariner outboard engine, 1 x traditional drontheim  fishing boat ‘James Kelly’ with Avon inflatable tender with 5hp Mariner outboard engine.

Waterproof clothing, 2x VHF radios and marine flares.

Friday 4 – Monday 7 May 2007. CCKA expedition to N W Donegal. We hope to explore the islands north of Magheroarty including Inishbofin, Inishdoey and Inishbeg. A bad weather alternative would be the Islands near Burtonport and Aranmore.
