Provisional PROGRAMME JANUARY – February 2008

First Aid Course Sunday 17th February. Please contact Steve Hodge before the end of January to book a place as he needs to order materials for the course and book a suitable venue.

Friday 18th January 08. Pool session at Coleraine Leisure Centre 9.00pm -10.00pm. Contact Gary Lamont. Kayak - £5 Swim - £1. Sessions are well filled already. Please inform Gary if you are unable to take up your slot as there is always a waiting list.

Sunday 20th January 08. Surf kayaking at the White Rocks. 10.00 onwards. Contact Robin Ruddock. An alternative venue may be used if surf is unsuitable.

Rivers of the Lough Neagh Basin. Day trip for experienced paddlers. Contact John Vance. These trips will take all day and are most suitable for open canoe paddlers.

Pool Sessions at Coleraine Leisure Centre.

Sessions take place each Friday evening 9.00pm -10.00pm. You may use your own equipment if it is rinsed out. Sessions are well filled already. Please inform Gary if you are unable to make it as there is always a waiting list.

Please note there will be no session Friday 14 February 08 due to Paddle Fest.

Friday 21 March 08. Pool session for sea kayak skills, all welcome.

Friday 28 March 08. Canoe polo session, all welcome. Bring a paddle, buoyancy aid and helmet. Contact Gary Lamont. Kayak - £5, Swim - £1.

The station is sited along the Gateside Road about 200 metres north of the entrance to the industrial estate that includes the M.O.T.Centre.

Tuesday 26th February 08. Navigation workshop. Basic use of charts and tide tables to plan coastal trips. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Saturday 1st March 08. Family Paddle. Day trip on the River Bann suitable for all levels of ability and type of touring craft, open canoe or sea kayak. Newferry to Portglenone. Meet at Portglenone Marina. Contact Paul McQueen.

Saturday 1st March 08. CANI Surf event for high performance craft at Portrush. Contact CANI Surf Club for details.

Sunday 9th March 08. Adventure Race for 16-18 year olds. Based at Strand Road in Coleraine. Events will include a run, cycle and kayak stages.Contact Keith Fitzsimmons. 

Sunday 16th March 08.Adventure Race for 14-16 year olds. Based at Strand Road in Coleraine. Events will include a run, cycle and kayak stages.Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Sunday 16th March 08. CANI Surf event for plastic craft at Portrush..Contact CANI Surf Club for details.

Friday 14th – Sunday 16th March. CANI Paddle Fest. This event is based at Bushmills Education Centre and offers the chance to meet other paddlers as well as to try other disciplines of the sport. Contact CANI to book a place.

 

PROGRAMME JANUARY – JUNE 2008

Surf kayaking sessions.

Surf kayaking sessions take place each Sunday morning from 10.00 onwards. An alternative venue may be used if surf is unsuitable. Contact Matt Pothecary. 

Rivers of the Lough Neagh Basin. Sunday trips for experienced paddlers. These trips will take all day and are most suitable for open canoe and touring kayaks. The aim is to explore all the rivers that flow into Lough Neagh and some trips may include an overnight camp or bivvy. Contact John Vance.  

Events and competitions.

Training for racing kayaks K1/K2s takes place most Wednesday evenings at Movanagher Canal Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Friday 2nd – Monday 5th May 08. Coast to Coast Adventure Race. Multi-discipline adventure race from the Atlantic to the Irish Sea. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Saturday 10th May 08. Portrush Sea Kayak Races. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 11.00am. Races for single and double sea kayaks. U16, U18, O18. Classes will be for male and female paddlers. Junior £2 adult £4.Contact Robin Ruddock.

Saturday 24th May 08. Portrush Raft Race Safety Cover. Paddlers should park in the West Bay and paddle across to the beach by the teas and ices hut for 2.00pm. G.P. kayaks are the most suitable and paddlers should hold Kayak Safety Test or have attended the Foundation Safety Course. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons. 

 

Training opportunities and courses.

Saturday 31st May 08. K1 and K2 races at Movanagher Canal. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Sunday 23rd March 08, Sunday 30th March 08 and Sunday 6th April 08.

One and two Star test training course. There will be a series of three sessions based at Portrush Harbour each Sunday morning beginning at 10.00am. Contact Steve Hodge.

Sunday 13th April 08. Sea kayak skills. Sea kayak skills and rescue techniques based at Portrush Harbour. This is a good opportunity to brush up on your sea kayaking skills in preparation for the spring and summer paddles. Meet at 10.00 am. Contact John Vance.

Sunday 20th April 08. Foundation Safety and RescueTraining. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 10.00am. This award replaces the old Canoe Safety Test. It will involve rescue training with open canoes and kayaks. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Sunday 27th April 08. Sea kayak skills. Sea kayak skills and rescue techniques based at Portrush Harbour. Meet at 10.00 am. Contact John Vance.

Friday 2nd May 08 – Monday 5th May 08. CCKA expedition to S.Donegal. Sea kayaking with the possibility of surf in the area. Wild camping.

Tuesday 6th May 08, Tuesday 13th May 08 and Tuesday 20th May 08. Paddle Power course for beginners and improvers in kayak and canoe skills. Meet at University of Ulster Coleraine, Watersports Centre, 7.00pm. Contact Steve Hodge.

Thursday evening sea kayak trips.

Thursday 8th May 08. Portrush to Portstewart. Meet at Portrush Harbour at 7.00pm.Contact Robert Walker.

Thursday 15th May 08. Portrush to Portballintrae. Meet at Portandhu at 7.00pm.  

Thursday 22nd May 08. Dunseverick to Ballintoy. Meet at Dunseverick at 7.00pm. Contact Keith Fitzsimmons.

Thursday 29th May 08. Portballintrae to Dunseverick. Meet at Portballintrae at 7.00pm. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Thursday 5th June 08. Ballintoy to Ballycastle. Meet at Ballintoy at 7.00pm. Contact John Vance.

Thursday 12th June 08. Magilligan Point to Inishowen. Meet at Magilligan at 7.00pm. Contact Robin Ruddock.

Thursday 19th June 08. Surf , shinty or swim followed by a bar-b-q at the East Strand Watersports Centre. Please bring your own food to cook. From 7.00pm onwards.
