These trips are suitable for families or paddlers who want to work towards 1 and 2 star skills. Slow moving rivers, i.e. the River Bann, may be used and usually involves a picnic.
White Water
Paddlers must have a minimum skill level of 2 star and provide their own equipment. The choice of river will depend on prevailing conditions and will usually involve 1-2 hours travelling to the venue.

FESTIVAL
OF THE SEA 2006
Do
not miss out on the craic. Please make every effort to support the kayaking
events at the festival. This is our flagship event and folk will be making
an extra effort to make this a success. We really do need your support and this
is your opportunity to give something back to all the coaches who give of their
time and effort freely. Many are
travelling from overseas so the least we can do is to make a bit of an effort
locally. A substantial sum of money has been invested on our behalf and it would
be a shame to miss out. We hope to see a good turn out at the event on the
Sunday at Lansdowne and please encourage your sea kayaking friends to come
along. I have included a list of folk I have contacted so dust down your gear
and pass on the word.
EQUIPMENT
Some equipment is missing and we
would appreciate it if it could be returned so that we can arrange long term
storage and repairs. The fleet of junior kayaks should be returned along with
spray-decks and paddles to the Cranagh. There is also a WW (turquoise) helmet
missing at present along with paddles and spray-decks.
Kayaks and canoes are available free
to members for programmed CCKA activities. New members have priority use of
equipment. Boats and ancillary equipment must be returned to the Cranagh
immediately after the paddle, rinsed and hung up to dry. Any other use of the
equipment at £5/session should be paid into the honesty box and recorded in the
log book. Any damage or repairs required should be reported to the Secretary or
coach so that the gear is safe and in good working order. Kayaks
with skegs must be used correctly as it is very difficult to repair bent cables.
Canoeing sessions
based on the Bann or at the Crannagh
are suitable for paddlers of all abilities and for all types of craft. Some of
these sessions may be based at the clubhouse and others may move to other
locations at the discretion of the coach in charge.
THURSDAY
EVENING SEA KAYAK TRIPS
Please
contact the coach in charge a few days before the event so that we have
sufficient coaches present for safety cover. If you require equipment please
collect it at least the day before the paddle as we are always in a bit of a
rush on the night. Paddlers should be self sufficient for safety equipment
including tow line, spare paddle/clothes and food, torch, first-aid and repair
kit, bivvy bag and knife. Some flares are available from the coach in charge of
the trip. Sea kayak trips are open to solo
paddlers who have two star kayak and it is possible for others to take part as
crew in a double with a more experienced paddler. The club has four double sea
kayaks that are available to members.
